I came in to have a wisdom tooth pulled and got to hear about Klingon offense tactics while I felt my face go from normal to numb... to normal again. The end of his discourse conveniently coincided with the end of my anesthesia shot's effect, resulting in a painful extraction attempt and the necessity for another anesthesia shot, a couple dozen more anecdotes and an extra hour. Worse, the only reason the second shot didn't have time to wear out too before he was done talking is because I actually interrupted a millionth story and asked if we were going to do this today or tomorrow...! He laughed at that and proceeded to pull the tooth, so that was nice.
I tried several dentists before settling down with one. Dr Oats has been fantastic. I have had 5 root canals and 3 crowns done in the past few years and my teeth are in the best shape since I was a kid. Not bad for someone over 60! The staff are top notch and always polite and helpful. I highly recommend Dr Oats and all of his staff!
While he was repairing my tooth there were at least two other people being worked at the same time by Oats. It was apparent that Oats was rushed on this assembly line and his work remains as a reminder of his hurried work. He left the tooth very rough, thus hard to clean and annoying. An example of his work. A perfectly fine tooth (the work was "preventative" dentistry) almost always cuts the strand when I dental floss. For several months the tooth was abrasive to my toungue which is unacceptable. The color, while close, is not the best match for the remaining tooth. The entire surface area he applied is like 100 grit sandpaper. I won't have more damage to my tooth to fix the color but the rest should have never been left unfinished. Finally, the staff is great at follow-up calls to solicite you business. Almost to the point of annoying. If only the actual dental work was as dilligently performed. It is a true dental mill.
Doctor did a great job on my mouth. Highly recommend
I have had good experiences with the staff at this office, however, my spouse has been there three times for the same issue and just a week after having a filling repaired, the filling fell out while eating a SOFT cookie. I am very disappointed in their dental work at this point.
Dr Oates spends more time talking about tv or hunting than doing dentistry. Nurses literally stand in line waiting for him to be done talking to a patient to tell him they are ready for him in room so-and-so. He vaguely acknowledges it and then turns back to the patient and makes it a point to finish his story, and tell a few more (from start to finish) before going to the other patients. By "talking to a patient" I don't mean small-talk while doing dentistry stuff - he literally sits in a chair across from you and monologues about random stuff for 10min at a time. Then moves on to the next patient/victim.
