My experience at this hospital was so horrific, I decided to write a review. I usually do not write reviews about medical stuff because I assume everyone already knows how inefficient our healthcare system is, so why would they read a review? No, They'll save their reading energy for the novel they will be able to read while waiting to see a nurse or doctor, right?
The nursing staff of aged hen-peckers sucked pretty bad, but the other staff was just as bad. The person responsible for getting my insurance company to pay for this visit to hell spelled my name wrong and seemed to be mentally challenged. I had to give her my phone number 4 times, and she had me spell out my address as she single-finger typed it in. The authorization was denied because of all the errors, so I had to go through it all again with her...and I still wasn't given any tylenol for my headache.
The moral of this story: try not to get hurt in Socorro County because this is the only hospital anywhere around, so you WILL end up there. It's a twilight zone kind of town with lots of horror stories, so try to drive straight through without stopping.
Next they made another assessment of my needs, and decided I needed a cat scan. At this point, the head laceration has closed over and nearly healed. One of the guys I was in this cruddy town working with brought me an icepack hours earlier, and the swelling was a little down (you'd think they'd have offered one when I got there), so I decided to forego the cat scan for fear of what might happen there. I waited until I was back in Sante Fe and got a cat scan through the urgent care.
The ER nurses bordered on incompetent, and seemed more interested in the food they were eating. Their breakroom was actually IN the ER, and they kept popping in and out of it with salsa dripping from their drooping double chins, laughing without a care in the world. Meanwhile, my head is throbbing in pain and bleeding, and the smell of their funky local food billowing through the ER nauseated me to the point where I finally puked. Even after that, and asking them nicely to stop producing nasty food smells, they continually gorged on their never-ending buffet of crap.
Socorro, New Mexico has bad juju in general, but this hospital is straight out of a 1970s horror movie. A ladder fell and hit the side of my head hard enough that there was swelling on the side of my head, and my ear was torn. I thought I was lucky arriving at this hospital's ER when there was not one other patient in the entire ER, including the waiting room. You'd think I'd get fast(er) service, yes? Hell no.
Additionally, they did not wash their hands or put on medical gloves when setting up my saline drip, which they didn't even start until I had been there for over an hour. At an hour and a half, the "doctor" came in, and spoke as if I weren't even in the room. When I asked him a question, he just glared at me and walked out of the room saying nothing. I never saw him again.
Next, this whiz team of healthcare "professionals" (none of them looked healthy at all) decided I need a head X-ray, since they finally acknowledged the swelling of my head. That sounds like it could be beneficial, but apparently the X-ray tech was actually a clown moonlighting as an X-ray tech. Although he took very many X-rays of my head, all of which he said were "safe", and manipulated my head aggressively with no compassion for the pain I was in, the report came back two hours later as "inconclusive" because the xray films were unreadable by a radiologist.
